15 September 2020

The “Childhood Is Ours” project („Детството е наше“) is aimed at children with oncohaematological diseases, and its main goal is to help overcome the emotional and psychological consequences of the social and educational isolation that characterises this high-risk group.

The project’s activities include two events — on Friday, 11 September 2020, for children up to 7 years old, and on Friday, 18 September 2020, for children aged 8 to 14. They will take the form of games that develop a range of skills in the participants and encourage social adaptation.

Besides children from the centre aged between 4 and 14, parents and young volunteers of the Association “Children with Oncohaematological Diseases” will also take part in the events.

The events will take place at the association’s Golden Ribbon Centre for Social Rehabilitation and Integration of Children with Oncohaematological Diseases, with the help of experts and specialists.

Through the “Childhood Is Ours” project, motor, tactical, logic, creative and educational games will be provided, along with games for fine motor skills, memory and concentration. Once the activities are over, they will remain for the benefit of the Golden Ribbon Centre for Social Rehabilitation and Integration of Children with Oncohaematological Diseases and of the bedridden children admitted to the Clinic of Paediatric Clinical Haematology and Oncology at UMHAT “Tsaritsa Yoanna – ISUL”.

*Owing to the epidemic situation and the measures to combat the spread of COVID-19, and given that the participants belong to an extremely high-risk group, the events of the “Childhood Is Ours” project, run in partnership with the Association “Children with Oncohaematological Diseases” and planned for 11 and 18 September 2020, will not take place.*

*So that the project’s activities can be carried out and its goals achieved, in line with the epidemic measures in force, individual sessions will be held between 28 September and 16 October 2020 with the participants who attend the centre of the Association “Children with Oncohaematological Diseases” and with children from the same target group admitted for treatment to the ward at ISUL.*

*Preparations for carrying out the “Childhood Is Ours” project safely are under way, and some of the materials planned for the activities are already in place to help the participants on their way to gaining knowledge and skills — in a fun way, full of smiles.*
