Children with Oncohaematological
Diseases
Golden Ribbon day centre

A place where the hospital stays outside.

The first and only centre in Bulgaria providing information, counselling and support to children with oncohaematological diseases. It opened its doors on 15 February 2013 — right next to the children’s clinic.

The day centre is the only place where children can meet peers who share their fate — where they can create, play and share with children who are going through the same trial. And because the illness affects the whole family, parents and healthy brothers and sisters find understanding here too.

The premises were provided free of charge by Sofia Municipality, and with the help of many donors and through hands-on work they were turned into a bright, colourful place to rest from the difficult medical procedures.

What’s inside

  • Children’s room — a calm place to play, away from the hospital setting.
  • Teen corner — a small library, a games room with computers, a PlayStation and lots of board games.
  • Art therapy studio — where little hands make souvenirs, jewellery and paintings.
  • Psychologists — with special programmes for every stage of treatment, for children and for parents.

And in the clinic

Every Tuesday and Wednesday our team is in the clinic and the outpatient department — with art therapy and social counselling for parents who cannot leave their child. We meet newly admitted children and their parents and hold out a friendly hand: we answer their questions about the difficulties, the pain, the despair — and about hope.
