About us

We founded it because we know.

The Association of Children with Oncohaematological Diseases was founded in 2010 by parents of children with blood cancer, their relatives and allies — so that no family is left alone in the battle with the illness.

As parents, relatives and allies who know this disease first-hand, we made it our mission to defend the rights of children with oncohaematological diseases, to support them in their fight, to help them and their families overcome the emotional and psychological consequences of the illness, and to ease their return to normal life after treatment.

The association is registered for public-benefit activity and holds a licence to provide social services for children, young people and their families. We are a full member of Childhood Cancer International (CCI), which unites more than 180 parent organisations from over 90 countries.

How we help

  • We raise awareness of the problems children with cancer face — and of the ways to solve them.
  • We answer the questions of families with a newly diagnosed child — about their rights and the road ahead.
  • We provide free schooling during treatment — a teacher at the hospital bedside.
  • We offer therapeutic and psychological support suited to each child’s age and needs, during treatment and after.
  • Since 2013 we have run the Golden Ribbon day centre at UMHAT “Tsaritsa Yoanna – ISUL”, Sofia.
  • We built the first rehabilitation centre for children with oncohaematological diseases in Bulgaria and the Balkans — St. Stylianos, in the village of Opitsvet.
  • Every summer we run recovery camps for children in treatment, survivors and their brothers and sisters.
  • We help survivors build confidence and find paths for personal and professional growth.

The battle is long. Families don’t win it alone.
